The Wakefield Rotary Club recently recognized several members and community volunteers with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award at a dinner event at Harringtons. This award is in recognition specifically of the member or volunteer’s commitment and support of The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation seeks to support 6 key areas of focus including maternal health and wellness, basic education and literacy, peace and conflict resolution, water and sanitation, and economic and community development. The sixth focus area, disease prevention and treatment was the main area in which awardees received recognition. Club Foundation Chair Judy Gordon explained, “Last year our club led the entire northeast Massachusetts area in supporting the global eradication of polio. With the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match, our club provided over 90,000 polio vaccines to Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. And we’ll do it again this year.” The club recognized the following Rotarians for their support: Chief Rick Smith, Paul Discoll, Mark Curley, Maryesther Fournier, Dick Reidy, Fred Singer, Ed Harding, Frank Fiorentino, Elaine Guaetta, Shibu James, Tom Stapleton, Judy Gordon, Jay Curley, Suzanne Bowering and Amy Luckiewicz. Among the non-Rotarian awardees were Toni Bowering, Susan Luckiewicz, Ed Luckiewicz, Dorrie Stapleton, Ava James, Anne Reidy, and Hee Won Livingstone.
