The Wakefield Rotary Club recently recognized several members for their support of The Rotary Foundation with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. The Foundation seeks to support 6 key areas of focus including maternal health and wellness, basic education and literacy, peace and conflict resolution, water and sanitation, and economic and community development. The sixth focus area, disease prevention and treatment was the main area in which awardees received recognition. Club Foundation Chair Barbara Worley noted, “This year, our club again led the entire northeast Massachusetts area in supporting the global eradication of polio. With the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match, our club provided about 90,000 polio vaccines worldwide. The money we raised also supported the global response systems to communicable diseases like Ebola.” The club recognized the following Rotarians for their support: Suzanne Bowering, Elaine Guaetta, Judy Gordon, Tom Stapleton, Jim Fitzgerald, Lisa Roderick, and James Taylor.
