DSCF4818The Rotary Club of Wakefield welcomed two Boston Marathon runners at their meeting on Tuesday, April 19th. Wakefield resident Erica Ferrell spoke about how the community support received really helped her during her second Boston Marathon. She noted, “Doing a second marathon has always been a personal goal of mine. Having the community behind me really helped.” Gianluca Carobene, an Italian Rotarian, also visited to exchange club banners with Wakefield President Bob Kimball. Carobene addressed the more than 40 in attendance at the meeting, “I already feel comfortable because I’m a Rotarian. Everyone has been so welcoming and friendly that it added to my Boston Marathon experience.” Carobene has raced over 20 marathons across the world and hopes to run the Venice Marathon in October to raise funds and awareness for Rotary’s Polio Plus program, aimed at eradicating polio by 2018. He concluded, “I now understand why the Boston Marathon is the best.”
